Club History
On the 17th of November 2021 the Z Car Club Sydney adopted a new name and constitution as approved by a Special General meeting. The new name was selected as a gesture to be more inclusive of all members not just Sydney based members. The new club name is now Z Car Club NSW Inc. incorporating Z Car Club Sydney Inc.
The Z Car Club of Sydney was born in November 1989, the “midwife” being Joe Grupe. Joe’s inspiration came from the Hunter Valley Z Car Club, which had been active for some three years prior. Joe’s engaging personality and enthusiasm drove the Club forward so that by the time of the inaugural Z National Meeting, hosted by the Z Car Club of Queensland at Easter 1990, there was a significant presence from the Sydney Club. Eventually the Hunter Valley Z Car Club amalgamated with their Sydney sibling in late 1991.
The Club has carried on to this day sharing the knowledge gained about Z cars of all models and fostering great friendships amongst members with a common interest. Though more than 50 years have passed since the birth of the Z car, parts are still readily available, and the all independent suspension and well designed overhead camshaft engines have given the Z a level of performance and handling which is equal to or better than the bulk of modern cars
The early 240Z and 260Zs are now cult cars that are seeing a significant increase in interest and values. Whilst modern Z cars are often an entry point for younger members wanting to experience supercar performance. We welcome all Z car owners.
Because of the Z’s sound design the cars have competed in all areas of motor sport. A number of members have modified or improved their cars for occasional motor sport participation. They will be happy to pass on their knowledge and assist. Over the years the club has supported a range of Motorsport and Social Events including Dyno Nights, Fun Runs, Observation Rallys, Driver Training Days, Classic Rally’s, Supersprints and Hillclimbs, Show & Shines, Cars and Coffee and has an occasional guest speakers at monthly meetings.
If you are thinking of buying a sports car, think Z. Gather information, talk to the club, obtain guidance, buy a Z and then join the Z Car Club to meet fellow Z car enthusiast.
Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at the Carnarvon Golf Club, 65-95 Nottinghill Road, Lidcombe commencing 7.30pm. Most members meet beforehand for dinner, you are welcome to join us.
